Day 2, Week 4 [Jul. 16th, 2008|10:17 pm]

[mood |tiredtired]

I did Day 2 of Week 4 of Couch to 5k this morning.  I so didn't want to get out of bed though.  I didn't sleep well at all last night.  So, when my alarm went off at 5:30am, I actually contemplated not getting up and putting Day 2 of until tomorrow.  But then I told myself, "No excuses," and I got my lazy ass out of bed and got ready for Day 2, Week 4.  Today was easier than Day 1, Week 4, but it was still pretty challenging.  I just keep thinking how awesome it will be to run a 5k.  I can't wait!  That in itself gives me motivation to get out there each morning.

yay for running.

cross posted to my lj.

Well, I made it through Day 1, Week 4 of Couch to 5k!  It was really difficult, but I took my time and made it all the way through!  I'm proud of myself.

On Friday morning I completed week 3 of Couch to 5k.  It was still pretty tough.  I'm considering repeating week 3, because I just don't know if I can handle Week 4.  Guess I'll just have to see come Monday morning how it goes.  My new running shoes came in on Wednesday evening!  I wore them on Friday, and they were awesome!

Today was difficult, too, but not quite as difficult as Day 1 of Week 3.  It's a hard workout for me, but I still love it.  I feel like I've accomplished something at the end of each run.

This morning I did Day 1 of Week 3 of Couch to 5k.  That was tough!  Longest three minutes of my life!  I'm hoping that Wednesday will go a bit smoother.  I hope by Friday at least I am ready to move on to Week 4.  I'd really love to get through the program without repeating weeks, but if I must, I must.

My left shin has some lingering pain to it after my runs.  I'm really trying to exercise it throughout the day everyday so as not to get shin splints.  My new shoes will be here Thursday.

couch to 5k.. again [Jul. 4th, 2008|09:46 am]

[mood |determined]

So, I've started Couch to 5k again.  It's really a wonderful program to get back into running again.  And boy have I been out of it.  Today I completed Week 2 of the program.  It was pretty difficult, but I think that the level of difficulty had a lot to do with my mood.  I've been extremely preoccupied lately.  But the point is, I went out there and did it!

How is everyone else doing? Still running?

Anyone have any breathing tips when running?  I'm pretty out of shape, so breathing is one of the more difficult challenges in this right now.  I try to stick with inhaling for 4 counts and exhaling for 4 counts, but my body just wants to take over and take quick shallow breaths.  Any suggestions?

So, who's got running goals for 2008????

I'm tentatively aiming for a half marathon in October... though I can't even run a whole mile at the moment!!! I'm going for my first run of the year later today (if it's not too cold and I get my work done) - and over the next few (cold) months I'm aiming on running twice a week, upping it to three times in April when the weather starts to get a little warmer and the mornings and evenings a little lighter.

Anyone else?

A New Runner/Race For Life [Mar. 15th, 2007|12:19 am]

Hi All,

I'm hoping to pick up some advice on how to start training for the Cancer Research UK Race for Life.  I am stupidly unfit and I do realise it might turn out to be more of an Amble for Life :o)  but I'm sure even amblers should do some training beforehand.

Any advice would be gratefully received.

But OMG it nearly killed me!.....

Managed to get out for a run on Thursday night, well more like a brisk walk with a little jogging here and there! It's been so long, and I found it so difficult. Gonna try to get out again this week, and hopefully it'll get easier!
